Some years back I used to lead park-walks at Knole at Sevenoaks. I prepared this sheet to help young people to explore plants and to match seeds with trees.

As we head through August for September the fruits are beginning to appear or become recognisable – in time for some animals and birds to stock their larder for the winter months.

Matching the leaves with the seeds will help with the recognition of our more common trees.

It can be used in places other than Knole Park but at Knole you can be sure all these trees are present.

All you need to do is match the ‘leaf number’ with the correct ‘seed letter’ in the table on the last page.

Trees & Seeds

This activity goes well with my other Activity Sheet that looks at how seeds of different sizes get dispersed / spread. Plants with these types of seeds can also be found in Knole Park.
